ECHO · DICTATION FOR MAC

Hold ⌥ Space and talk.

Let go, and Echo pastes the text at your cursor, in the app you’re using. By default, your Mac transcribes your voice. The audio doesn’t leave it.

TAKE 1 · THE SAME DICTATION, FRAME BY FRAME

  1. 01 · YOU HOLD ⌥ SPACE

    The mic opens.

    Echo records for as long as you hold the keys. Its icon lights up in the menu bar, and your Mac’s sound is muted until you let go.

  2. 02 · YOU TALK

    The HUD tracks your voice.

    At the bottom of the screen, it shows your mic level, a timer, the mode, and the engine. Your cursor stays in Mail. Esc cancels, and nothing gets pasted.

  3. 03 · YOU LET GO

    Your Mac transcribes.

    Parakeet v3 runs locally on Apple silicon: a 480 MB model for 25 European languages. The audio doesn’t leave your Mac.

    Other engines on your Mac: Whisper (99 languages) and Apple Speech. In the cloud, with your own key, the audio goes to the provider you pick, and the HUD names it.

  4. 04 · A MODE CLEANS IT UP

    Your ums disappear.

    Nettoyage (cleanup) removes them and fixes the punctuation. It doesn’t reword. Each AI mode runs on Claude, OpenAI, Mistral, Gemini, Groq, or OpenRouter with your key, or locally with Ollama or LM Studio.

    Other modes: Traduction (translation), Résumé (summary), and your own. Dictée pastes the raw text. Each app can have its own mode (Mail → Nettoyage), or hold ⌃⌥1 to 4 for one take.

  5. 05 · IT’S PASTED

    The text lands in Mail.

    In French, Echo adds a non-breaking space before : ; ? ! % and inside « ».

TAKE 2 · REWRITE THE SELECTION

Select. Say what to change.

With text selected, hold ⌥⇧Space and say how to change it: “more professional,” “translate into French.” Let go, and Echo replaces the selection. ⌘Z undoes it.

Up to 8,000 selected characters. In a password field, Echo reads nothing and sends nothing.

Echo’s interface is in French for now. You can dictate in 25 European languages with Parakeet, or in 99 with Whisper.
